State Bank to issue fresh currency notes via SMS service

State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched an SMS service to issue fresh currency notes in exchange of old ones to the public ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The SBP will start issuance of the new currency notes through SMS service from 1st June till 14th June 2018. People who want to get new currency notes need to send SMS his/her ID card number along with the desired e-branch to 8877. According to the bank, the service charges will be 1.50 + tax per SMS. The person will receive an SMS containing redemption code, desired e-branch address and the code validity period. Redemption code received will be valid for two (02) working days as per the mentioned dates in the SMS.

The fresh currency notes will be available at the designated commercial bank branches called “e-branches” and sixteen field offices of The SBP Banking Service Corporation (SBP-BSC). The service will be available in 1535 e-branches in 132 cities across Pakistan. The branch IDs of designated e-branches are available at SBP and Pakistan’s Bank Association’s (PBA) website.

The customer may then visit the concerned e-branch along with his/her original CNIC, a photocopy of the CNIC and redemption code received from 8877 to acquire fresh currency notes. A customer can obtain three packets of Rs.10/- and one packet each of Rs. 50/- & Rs. 100/- as per availability of stock.

It is also notified that each CNIC number or mobile phone number can only be used once. No transaction code will be issued to the sender in case he/she sends the same CNIC from different mobile numbers and vice-versa.
