Starlink Satellite Will Now Provide Internet Services For Private Jets

The high speed Starlink broadband connection will be sold to private jets for a whooping price of $12,500 to $25,000 a month

Elon Musk’s vision for providing a satellite internet service seems to be expanding as SpaceX just announced that the Starlink satellite will now start to provide in-flight wifi services. This will allow people traveling in airplanes to enjoy uninterrupted high speed internet at all times.

But the service comes at a high cost, according to Starlink Aviation, any airplane that uses the Starlink satellite internet will have to pay somewhere around $12,500 to $25,000 per month. Adding to the monthly payments, the owner of the airplane will also have to pay a hardware installment fee amounting $150,000. The hardware for the Starlink satellite internet are mostly antennas that will allow the plane to catch Starlink signals.

Adding in more details, the Starlink Aviation wrote that the earliest delivery for the plane internet service would be somewhere in the middle of 2023. It also wrote that people willing to install the Starlink satellite internet service for their private jets can book in advance by paying $5000.

The speed of the Starlink private jet internet would be around 350 mbps which is significantly high and will allow passengers to do things such as video calling or even gaming easily.

As space satellite internet services start to take shape, companies such as SpaceX’s and satellite operator OneWeb are starting to heavily target both airlines and private jet owners since there is massive money to be made in this market.

Airline internet market is already dominated companies such as Inmarsat and ViaSat, but with SpaceX and others making an entry, competition is expected to increase. Amidst the competition Inmarsat and its rival ViaSat have plans to merge.

SpaceX apart from offering its services to private jet owners is also planning on to provide internet connectivity to Hawaiian Airlines.
