A prominent personality from Pakistan’s IT arena, the Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif was the target of an attack carried out by sharpshooters from afar.
The attack which took place a couple of days ago targeted Dr. Umar Saif’s office. According to the PITB officials, the attack was aimed at threatening and/or harming Dr. Umar Saif as the bullets shots penetrated right through the glass panes of his office.
Burhan Rasool, who is currently working as General Manager PITB, said that the bullets were shot from a lower location and landed just a few inches away from Umar’s seat after hitting the ceiling of the room.
Fortunately, no one was harmed in the shooting attack as the attack took place on Sunday and majority of the staff was on leave when the incident occurred. Dr. Umar Saif, who’s believed to have been targeted, was not present in the office when the shot was fired as he was in Dubai representing PITB and signing important agreements with the Dubai Police Chief, General Abdullah Khalifa.
The shooting reportedly took place on Sunday. As of now, there has been no identification about the alleged attackers, the officials say. Punjab Police which initiated the investigations stated that it is still not certain if it was a stray bullet or indeed an intended shot, reported Pakistan Today.
Dr. Umar Saif is a notable personality from Pakistan’s IT arena. He is a member of Punjab Cabinet and is currently heading Punjab Information Technology Board including all of its sub-projects including PlanX, Plan9 and TechHub Connect. He is also Vice Chancellor of the Informational Technology University of Pakistan and was also featured among the top 500 most influential Muslims from around the world.
