Snapchat’s Biggest Redesign Ever: Here’s All You Need To Know

Snapchat is undertaking its most significant redesign in years, reducing from five to three tabs: one for chats and Stories with friends, one for the camera, and another for a TikTok-style feed of full-screen videos from artists and publishers.

Simple Snapchat, the redesign of Snapchat was announced onstage Tuesday at Snap’s annual Partner Summit in Los Angeles. “It brings Stories closer to conversations, it simplifies content discovery, and it brings people straight into our camera to express themselves,” Snap CEO Evan Spiegel told a media outlet.

Snap Map, direct messages, the camera, and two options of Stories and Spotlight are the five primary options in Snapchat before the update. In this new design, Snap Map will be located in the messaging section as well as Stories from friends and followed people.

To the right of the camera, as presented during the event, users will be able to see a single new ‘For You’ that includes the Spotlight and content from other media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and Daily Mail. This gradual change is expected to improve user interaction and allow the company to analyze changes in user engagement with the content over time.

The company generates the majority of its revenue from advertisements that are displayed along with this content. Consequently, it is implementing the redesign gradually so “we can understand any changes in content dynamics,” as Spiegel states.

This new update aims to redesign Snapchat and make it more appealing and accessible for watching videos you’d ordinarily use TikTok or Instagram for. Spiegel believes it will improve the producer’s business of Snapchat, who share over a billion pieces of material every month.

How Simple Snapchat Works?

Open to Camera

As usual, when users start Snapchat, they are met with the camera view, which allows them to quickly shoot and share Snaps.

Conversations All in One Place

Users will find the Chat tab on the left, which acts as a center for all of their chats. Stories are now prominently featured at the top of this section, emphasizing the value of sharing and reacting to Stories in communication. Furthermore, a button at the bottom of this page enables instant access to Snap Map, allowing users to easily convert their chats into real-world plans.

 Personalized Content, For You

On the right side, Snapchatters will see a redesigned watching experience that combines Stories and Spotlight videos. This feature is powered by Snapchat’s first-ever unified recommendation algorithm, which provides the most tailored experience to date. Videos from friends are prioritized, while suggestions are customized to what individuals love sharing with their network, popular material within their circle, and their own watching tastes.
