If you’re an avid Snapchat user, then you must be well aware with their trademark geofilters. Those filters change in accordance with which country or city you’re in. Now, Snapchat has announced that people will be able to design geofilters for their big events and parties.
Previously, all filters in Snapchat had been in-built. In the last year, they started accepting designs from people of different cities from all over the world. Those designs ended up as geofilters for the respective cities. Considering how seriously people take documenting their lives, Snapchat is now taking things to the next level, by opening this option to all.
“We initially designed Community Geofilters for public places — but we kept hearing from Snapchatters who wanted a Geofilter for their business or private event, so today we’re announcing something new:
On-Demand Geofilters let you create and publish a Geofilter for your party, wedding, business, or any other place or event. It’s a fun way to help your friends or customers decorate their Snaps, wherever they are!”
But there is a price to pay. You can buy these geofilters for an event or an entire area starting from an hour upto thirty days. Prices vary depending on the size of your geofence, your chosen time slot etc. Starting from $5, the prices will be low for smaller neighborhoods and can go above $600 for larger areas.
The process to creating your own filter is pretty simple. Using your favourite image editor create a filter. Or you could use the templates provided by Snapchat. Pick a geofence, day and timeslot when you want your filter to be available. Submit your filter and then pay Snapchat to own. We know it sounds ridiculous for having to pay in order to own your creation but people will do it nonetheless.
The feature is available in US, UK and Canada for now. Other locations will be get the feature soon.
