In an unexpected turn of events, SnapChat has partnered with its biggest longtime rival Facebook. Now the SnapChat users will be able to share their stories on social media networks including Facebook and Twitter.
SnapChat has been struggling with its user growth because almost all of its features have been copied on Instagram and a few have made its way to the Facebook platform itself as well. As a result of this cloning, users do not see any reason to have a standalone application for sharing their daily stories. It must be noted here that Instagram has a bigger userbase than SnapChat.
Starting from today, users who have the latest version of SnapChat will be able to share their stories on social media platforms. Rest of the users will have to update the application to the latest version. By opening up to other platforms, SnapChat is expecting to reach the users of Facebook and Twitter and get them to download the applications.
Evan Spiegel had previously declined an acquisition offer from Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. Both of the platforms have stayed in news owing to the features war Facebook started after one by one cloning SnapChat unique features in its application. Seems like now Evan Spiegel has gotten soft on other social media platforms and is now open for collaboration as well.
