Snapchat gains legal rights to distribute photos of app users

Snapchat has always trended in news for the controversies it attracts towards the disappearance of its timed messages. The app has recently updated its privacy policy and thus revealed a number of significant changes. The revamped privacy policy gives Snapchat legal power to use or distribute all photos that are posted by the app users.

The new clause added in the policy gives Snapchat the right to: “host, store, use, display, reproduce, modify, adapt, edit, publish, create derivative works from, publicly perform, broadcast, distribute, syndicate, promote, exhibit, and publicly display that content in any form and in any and all media or distribution methods (now known or later developed).”

A lot of users may have shown their acceptance of the new policy without a peruse reading therefore granting access to Snapchat to everything they post on the app. Snapchat can now use the users’ data for the promotion of its services, sharing it with its stakeholders and distributing it for public use. Another clause states that it may: “use its users’ name, likeness and voice used in a live story for marketing campaigns without any compensation.”

This establishes the fact that Snapchat content is not disappearing at all.
