Smartphone sales decline for the second consecutive quarter

The smartphone sales continue its decline in the worldwide markets.

According to the most recent statistics from Gartner, a global data research firm, global smartphone sales have witnessed a decline continuously for the second quarter. The second quarter of the current financial year saw a decrease of 1.7% in the sales of smartphones compared to the sales volume from the same quarter in last year. Despite the US ban on Huawei, the company was able to propel its smartphone sales. The ban was later lifted by the country.

In the quarter which has just ended, the smartphone manufacturers were reportedly able to sell a total of 368 million smartphones which were a bit less than 374 million smartphones sold during the same time of last year. The demand for high-end smartphones was impacted the most. “Demand for high-end smartphones has slowed at a greater rate than the demand for mid-range and low-end smartphones,” mentioned Anshul Gupta, who is working as a senior research director at Gartner.

Apple saw a decline in its smartphone sales, but Huawei and Samsung were able to push their sales. Samsung topped the list by selling 75.11 million smartphone units. Huawei sold about 58 billion of its handsets while Apple sold 38.52 million smartphone units.

Samsung which was facing a decline in its smartphone sales over several quarters saw the sales increasing. The sales were mainly pushed by smartphones from its Galaxy A series. Huawei, on the other hand, was able to move up its sales volume through the marketing strategies it pulled off in China.
