Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has ordered the upgradation of about 24 schools in Islamabad with modern technology, under Smart School Project (SSP).
The announcement was made at a meeting of officials from the education sector of Pakistan. They were informed that Smart School Project (SSP) is based on the concept of ‘blended learning’ in which digital and online media is used to educate students. A technology-equipped environment in schools with modern computers, internet connectivity and online learning will boost the comprehensive skills of students. Online instruction materials like bilingual (English-Urdu) training courses will improve the technical skills of the teachers.
At first, 12 boys and 12 girls’ schools will be equipped with technology infrastructure. The laboratories and libraries of these schools will be upgraded and smart classrooms will be established to provide IT based learning.
SSP will cover the children from age group 8 to 14 years old, and the project will be focused on providing quality education mostly to the students from middle or low economic backgrounds. Minister said,
“That technology-enabled education will provide an opportunity to address the gap in the quality of education in top private schools and public sector schools in Islamabad,”
The project has been approved by the Planning Commission (PC) under the Public Sector Development Program this year. This is a pilot project which will be further replicated to other institutions.
The meeting was attended by Minister of CADD, CADD Advisor and officials from Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). The minister directed the FDE and management of the Prime Minister Education Reform Program to take immediate steps in launching SSP.
