Slowing older phones “is not something we do”, claim HTC and Motorola

After the exposition of Apple which admitted to slowing down older iPhones, the search for truth is expanding its scale to other smartphones’ manufacturers too. One of the mainstream news outlets of the technology, The Verge has started asking all big names in smartphones manufacturing about the issue via email, and few of them have replied, while others’ response is being awaited.

Apple may not be the only pirate in reducing older phone’s performance. It still remains to be seen, whether other smartphone manufacturers also followed the Apple’s policy of compelling its users to replace old devices with new ones. In response to the emails to The Verge, HTC and Motorola said that they do not practice this strange thing with their smartphones.

A spokesperson from HTC said that designing phones to slow down their processor when the battery gets old “is not something we do.” Almost similar remarks were given by a spokesperson of Motorola, which says,

“We do not throttle CPU performance based on older batteries.”

The Verge also contacted with other tech giants including the likes of Google, Samsung, LG, and Sony for a comment on whether they also reduced the performance of phone’s processors to heal aging batteries. But none of them was able to respond immediately on the matter.

It all started a couple of weeks ago when a report from Geekbench founder, John Poole indicated that Apple reduces the speed of the processors in iPhones with old and worn batteries. Later on, Apple faced several lawsuits over admitting the alleges and ultimately compelled to apologizing to consumers with a price cut on battery fix of up to 60%.
