Sindh Police Begin Impounding Vehicles Without Licenses From January 1 2025

The Sindh Police have declared that, starting January 1, 2025, vehicles driven without a valid driver’s license will be impounded with immediate effect. This policy aims to deter unlicensed driving and promote responsible road usage across the province.

The decision was finalized during a meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by Inspector General Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon. The meeting focused on strengthening the enforcement of traffic laws throughout Sindh.

To support this initiative, the Sindh Police launched an awareness campaign on December 20, 2024, to encourage citizens to obtain valid driving licenses. The campaign included the establishment of 35 license camps and the placement of over 2,000 banners across public spaces, leading to a 25-30% increase in license applications.

Traffic officers are directed to monitor drivers for violations and, upon detecting unlicensed drivers, to seize their vehicles under the new policy. However, routine road inspections are not recommended to foster a courteous relationship between law enforcement and the community.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to address challenges such as illegal encroachments, poor parking management, traffic violations, and inadequate traffic infrastructure.
