Sindh Government Plans Action Against Misuse of Official Vehicles

KARACHI: The Sindh government has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on the misuse of official vehicles, aiming to enhance transparency and reduce unauthorized use. In a meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, it was decided to file charges against individuals who have either failed to return official vehicles or are using them for personal and unauthorized purposes.

Additionally, the government plans to auction off surplus government vehicles to generate revenue for high-priority initiatives. The meeting also emphasized the need for cost-cutting measures and transparency in the allocation and usage of official vehicles. Minister Memon stressed the importance of minimizing the use of official cars and ensuring that expenses remain within budget.

The committee has been tasked with establishing clear regulations regarding the use of official vehicles and the level of transparency expected during the auction process. Provincial Ministers Saeed Ghani and Ali Hassan Zardari, among others, attended the meeting.

In a related development, the Sindh government has announced new regulations concerning vehicle licensing. All private vehicles are now required to display white number plates featuring a design inspired by the Sindhi Ajrak, while commercial vehicles will have yellow plates with the same design. This change aims to enhance vehicle safety measures and ensure uniform identification.

The Excise and Taxation Department has set a deadline of April 3, 2025, for vehicle owners to replace their old number plates with new ones. The department has also launched a second phase to issue retro-reflective number plates for old vehicles, with no additional fee imposed for the new plates.
