Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan has nabbed SECP Chairman Zafar Hijazi on tampering charges.
Joint Investigation team (JIT) which was probing Panama case said that Hijazi has been involved in tampering the record of Chaudhry Sugar Mills. Till now Zafar Hijazi was on interim bail, he appeared before the court to get an extension on his interim bail, however, was challenged from FIA in the court not to be given any kind of extension, after which the court rejected his appeal and after that the Federal Investigation Agency arrested him from the court’ s room.
The case against Hijazi was registered on the order of honorable Supreme Court after the court examined a report prepared by JIT. The report stated that he has altered the record of the sugar mill and have been found guilty. Similarly, FIA has also submitted a report in SC, which aligns its finding with that of JIT and declared that the chairman has indeed altered the records. Federal Investigation Agency has submitted 28 page long report in SC regarding the case.
Before declaring SECP Chairman guilty FIA had given proper time to Hijazi to prove his innocence.
In the court, lawyer of Mr. Hijazi argued that his client has been victimized on political basis and should be given extension in interim bail. The counsel further argued that the health of SECP Chief is not well and that is why shouldn’t be sent to jail.
