Science and Technology Park to be established at NUST

At last, the long delayed National Science and Technology park project has been given a green signal by Higher Education Commission(HEC). The project is aimed at developing students with strong technical skills and to make more IT professionals in the country. The National Science & Technology Park will be built in NUST’s Islamabad campus and is expected to be worth around PKR 3 billion.

The project will be constructed under public-private partnership and for initial ground work PKR 40 million will be issued in the current year. The project will receive money on yearly basis. It would be worth mentioning here that NUST will be responsible for conceptualization of the park.

International organizations such as World Technological Association (WTA), International Association of Science Parks, and Areas of Innovation (IASP) and INSTP have agreed to give technical support to the park.

Moreover, the park will comprise of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, R&D Centre, Science Centre, Technology Incubation Centre, Manufacturing Resource Centre, IT and Telecom Data Center, and a Learning Academy. The Park will host a Research Center and a recreational facility as well.

Not just professionals but the Park will serve students from underprivileged backgrounds. It will open new job opportunities in the country which will give a boost to country’s economy as well.

The year so far has been excellent for NUST as a few days back the varsity secured a position among top 500 global universities, clinching the 437 spot.
