Saudi Arabia announces Hajj Hackathon for techies around the world

The Saudi Federation of Cybersecurity, programming, and drones has announced that registrations for Hajj Hackathon are now open.

Hajj Hackathon is inviting leading programmers and experts from the tech world from all over the world to leverage technology and innovation to streamline the process of pilgrimage and improve the experience of pilgrims by taking challenges comprising of food and beverage, transportation and stay. The Hackathon will be held in August in Jeddah and it is being speculated that 3000 developers will be registering for this challenge.

The hackathon is offering prizes for the top three winners. They will get free tickets to the Google IO Developers Conference happening next year and RiseUp Summit happening this year. Furthermore, the winners will get Google Home Mini with Google Assitant built in and Google Cloud credit. The top ten teams will get Google Home Mini with Google Assitant built in and Top 20 will get Google cloud credit.

The winner will be awarded a grand prize which comprises of 1000,000 SAR for 15% equity investment. The runner-up will get 500,000 SAR for 10% equity investment. And the 2ND runner-up will get 350,000 SAR for 7 % equity investment.

Participation submissions will be judged keeping in view the following criteria

  • Design
  • Simplicity
  • Impact
  • Creativity

Hajj Hackathon will take place at Jeddah International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The webinar will take place on July 31st and the Hackathon will start on August 1st and will conclude on August 3rd.
