The South Korean tech giant, Samsung which is popular for being the largest smartphones manufacturer is also known to be a magician for its innovative display business.
Although the company’s OLED display business is blooming due to the considerable use of OLEDs in smartphones as well as other electronics such as TVs, yet the company’s own products are created with QLED – quantum dot display.
Samsung’s new QLED line of 4K TVs features a technology dubbed as “Ambient Mode”. This mode enables the TV to blend in the background whenever it’s turned off. The feature creates an illusion to make the TV look transparent (or otherwise invisible) by using a color and brightness matching process, displaying the same color or pattern shown on the wall behind it.
To make this feature work, you would need to open Samsung’s SmartThings app, which is its connected home hub. From there, you will take a picture of your wall or your wallpaper i.e. a brick, wood or a plain white surface. The ambient mode will mimic the pattern on the wall behind the TV to create an astonishing visual effect of transparency.
There are five QLED models, with minor changes between them, ranging in size from 49 inches to an absolutely huge 88 inches. The TVs have a built-in timer so that the ambient setting will turn off after a while, in order to save electricity consumption. The TVs also pack few other amazing features, like their thin cables.
The prices of these innovative TVs are still unknown, however, they will be available for purchase in the next few weeks.
