Samsung’s Latest Quantum Dot OLED Panels Deliver Unmatched 4,000-Nit Brightness

Samsung Display, the world’s largest OLED panel manufacturer, is set to reveal its next-generation QD-OLED panels for televisions at the CES 2025 expo in Las Vegas, USA, next week. The new QD-OLED panels come with significant upgrades, offering remarkable improvements in brightness and color purity.

Key Highlights of the New QD-OLED Panels

  • The fourth-generation QD-OLED TV panels can achieve over 4,000 nits of peak brightness, representing a 30% increase compared to last year’s panel, which reached up to 3,000 nits.
  • This milestone was made possible through advanced panel-driving technology and new organic materials developed by Samsung Display.
  • The new panels use red, green, and blue sub-pixels, ensuring the highest color purity for an enhanced viewing experience.
  • In comparison, WOLED panels, like those made by LG Display, use an additional white sub-pixel to reach peak brightness, which compromises the color depth and purity.
  • A 77-inch prototype TV featuring the new QD-OLED panels will be unveiled to the media at CES 2025.
  • The TV aims to showcase the full potential of Samsung’s next-generation display technology.
  • Samsung Display will also present a unique ‘QD Jungle’ at CES 2025, a media art space designed to immerse visitors in a realistic forest-like experience, highlighting the vivid colors and brightness of the new panels.

Samsung’s New QD-OLED Monitors

Samsung Display has also introduced new-generation QD-OLED monitor panels, which will be available in the following sizes:

  • 27-inch
  • 31.5-inch
  • 34-inch
  • 49-inch

These new monitor panels are designed for content creation, gaming, and productivity, offering a high-quality visual experience across multiple use cases. The panels are expected to be integrated into Samsung’s Odyssey series and Smart Monitor series announced earlier this year.

While Samsung Display’s latest QD-OLED technology promises a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, it’s still unclear if Samsung Visual Display (the company’s TV arm) will incorporate the full capability in the upcoming OLED TVs, or if the models will feature slightly toned-down versions of the panel.

Samsung’s showcase at CES 2025 promises to be a game-changer in the world of display technology, highlighting its role as an industry leader in OLED innovation.
