Samsung’s curved screen monitors are less eye-straining, more comfortable to view, Harvard study shows

Samsung’s SE890C is a curved screen monitor that can provide a viewing experience with utmost comfort and minimal eye strain, according to a research conducted at the Harvard Medical School. As part of this research, both flat and curved screen monitors were studied for monitoring the eyestrain caused when an intensive visual search task was carried out.

The findings of this research paper were announced last week in San Francisco at the annual Display Week hosted by the Society of Information Display’s. The research was led by Drs. Eli Peli who stated the fact that Samsung’s curved screen monitors provided better a better user viewing experience than flat screen monitors.

As part of the study, researchers asked participants with a near perfect vision to view content on 34” Samsung SE790C curved monitors and a flat screen monitor of equal display size. The testing process involved the participants looking at the screen for a long period. Both before and after the study, the participants then had to fill out a questionnaire to measure how comfortable they were with their vision. Through this, data was gathered for comparison of the two different screen types and the results concluded that the Samsung SE790C was more comfortable to view, easier to focus on, and caused lesser eyestrain.

According to Seog-gi,Kim, the Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung:
“Through innovative design and a host of viewer-friendly features, Samsung’s curved monitors are optimized to offer the most immersive, comfortable and vivid viewing experience possible. The results of the Harvard Medical School study further validate our promise to deliver high-quality visual environments that are less taxing and more enjoyable, and we will continue to introduce new innovations that exceed our customers’ expectations.”

These curved screen displays by Samsung employ a design that is identical to the human eye. This allows the screen to present better viewing angles and a more pleasurable experience for the eyes. These screens are more suitable than flat screen displays, particularly when you need to look at the screen for long periods of time.
