Samsung Scales Back Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 Amid Shrinking Sales

Samsung is reportedly planning to reduce production of its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 devices by nearly 40% compared to previous models, in response to declining sales of its foldable smartphones.

The Elec, a representative from China-based company Fastprint, a circuit board manufacturer, revealed that Samsung expects to marginally expand manufacturing of the Galaxy S25 series while cutting down its foldable efforts.

According to the data released by an industry insider from Hana Securities, overall sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 had not exceeded 5 million devices, indicating that this decision reflects declining sales. In comparison to the Fold 5 and Flip 5 models, this represents a 6% decrease. On the plus side, the Fold 6’s sales performance was somewhat better than that of its predecessor.

According to reports, Samsung is concentrating on possible enhancements for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, which are anticipated in 2026, rather than preparing any significant upgrades for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The full translated quote from The Elec reads:

“Looking only at Samsung Electronics’ foldable phone form factor, it seems that there will be some changes starting with the Z8 series that will be released in 2026, aside from the Galaxy Z7 series next year. It seems like Samsung Electronics’ strategy is to respond to the pursuit of Chinese foldable phones and the expected launch of Apple’s foldable products, but expectations have fallen significantly.”

With plans to increase the manufacturing of the Galaxy S25 by 7%, with an eye toward 37.4 million units, Samsung is anticipated to concentrate on its Galaxy S series in light of these difficulties.
