Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are here, not quite here in my pocket precisely, but obviously in pockets of some deep pockets, some attendees of MWC, and of course those giant media outlets. Samsung unveiled the beasts in an astonishing event, yesterday night at Barcelona, Spain where Mobile World Congress (MWC) has just started.
At the time of the announcement, Samsung’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Justin Denison gave the presentation about all those amazing features of Galaxy S9 variants in segments. And how could Samsung forget the section where it has to mock its old-time rival Apple. Samsung following its old conventions took a dig at Apple iPhone X‘s controversial notch display and the lack of Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Samsung’s SVP of Marketing, Justin Dension while talking about the infinity display of the Galaxy S9, which is being touted as “Uninterrupted Display” this year, said that “When we released the Infinity Display, most people had never seen anything like it. […] We’ve created a design so sleek and unified, you can hardly tell where the screen ends. And as always, you know, there’s no notch.”
As always, finding the most suitable words and striking at that ugly looking notch of iPhone X, was the thing most people laughed during the event. Dension didn’t stop there, he moved on further elaborating the sleek design of the back of the S9. He said that Samsung has adjusted the fingerprint scanner’s position on the Galaxy S9 after listening “carefully to your feedback”, and now it lies right below the camera setup – easy to reach. He said that we know that it’s “the most popular ways to unlock our phones” and that’s why Samsung is going to keep it, unlike Apple. According to him,
“Take the fingerprint scanner for example, which we all know is one of the most popular ways we like to unlock our phones. Which is why we didn’t get rid of it. Instead, we listened carefully to your feedback and we moved the fingerprint scanner directly below the camera.”
Here’s the video, where you can see that part of the event.
This is not all, almost all speakers of the event have had something intriguing to defame Apple, but of course in hidden words. For instance, there’s was fellow, supposedly from the technical team, he was giving demo of the S9’s advanced speakers and said “[…] and it (Dolby Atmos system) works whether you are listening S9’s amazing new speakers or on your own pair of headphones, by simply connecting them at the convenient headphone socket at the bottom of the device.” See the video for that part.
Well, Apple still has its innovative Face ID in iPhone X, which is still more secure that S9’s “intelligent scan” which works by combining both iris scanner and face recognition tech.
