Samsung may use faster 12 GB RAM for upcoming Note 10

On 18th of July, Samsung Electronics has announced that it was starting mass production of a new 12 GB LPDDR5 mobile DRAM. This RAM is a big deal because it has been configured for 5G and other features like better support of Artificial Intelligence applications.

Its predecessor is the 12 GB LPDDR4X RAM that was found in Samsung Galaxy S10+. On the other hand, the 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM is about 1.3 times faster despite sharing the memory size.

The new mobile memory is aimed towards the top of the line mobile phones where performance is a must. The announcement of this mass production comes at an interesting time. Samsung is gearing up to release the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. In fact, its release date is 7th August. We strongly believe that the Note 10 is going to have this upgraded 12 GB RAM.

Key advantages of 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM

This 12 GB RAM is capable of transferring 44 GB of data in just one second. To put that in perspective, that’s about 12 full-HD movies.

It is also more power-efficient leading to better battery timings. It uses less than 30% of the power used by its predecessor. However, this is only considering the RAM chip exclusively.

Also, as mentioned earlier it has better support for both 5G and AI applications.

With mass production of the 12Gb LPDDR5 built on Samsung’s latest second-generation 10-nanometer (nm) class process, we are thrilled to be supporting the timely launch of 5G flagship smartphones for our customers worldwide,” said the executive vice president of DRAM Product & Technology, Samsung Electronics, Jung-bae Lee. He continued:

Samsung remains committed to rapidly introducing next-generation mobile memory technologies that deliver greater performance and higher capacity, as we continue to aggressively drive the growth of the premium memory market.
