Samsung is working on an under-display camera, may launch next year

The news comes from a Twitter user by the name of IceUniverse, who has revealed credible information about Samsung in the past. TheElec, a Korean technology publication, has also revealed similar information, so the news seems to be quite convincing. According to these reports, Samsung plans to start mass production by the end of this month, if all goes well. This means that the smartphone could potentially be available for purchase as early as the start of next year.

The reports also revealed that the under-display camera tech could be part of the Galaxy S11 or even the Galaxy Fold 2 smartphones. However, the most likely scenario appears to be that Samsung will test out the technology by launching it on one of it’s Galaxy A series phones, which sit just below the S series and Note series of flagships. This is backed by Samsung’s general tendency to use the A-series as a testbed for new technologies that later feature on the more important S and Note phones, such as the hole-punch camera, and the in-display fingerprint sensor. The tech could also feature on the next version of the Note.

Other smartphone companies, like Chinese rivals Huawei and Oppo, are working on their own designs of under-display cameras as well. In fact, Oppo has already unveiled its under-screen camera at the Mobile World Congress in July, although it hampers camera quality a little bit. We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung can do any better.
