Samsung is also reportedly leveling its wings to join the Smart Speaker race.
The South Korean tech giant might be working on a smart speaker of its own. A new report, as published by “The Wall Street Journal”, quotes that the voice activated speaker would be powered by Bixby and has been into the works for more than a year now.
Code-named Vega, the speaker is being built to tackle Google Home and Amazon Echo. The product is still in its initial development phases and many of the speaker’s features haven’t yet been decided. The lag in the development of the product is not due to the speaker itself but because of the voice assistant that powers it. Samsung which marketed Bixby along with Samsung Galaxy S8 had to launch Samsung Galaxy S8 without some key developments in Bixby. The Bixby which came with the Samsung Galaxy S8 didn’t come with support for the English language until a recent update added it.
The smart speakers find utility in automating tasks more importantly those relating to controlling smart homes. Many manufacturers also add some functionalities related to their businesses as well, like Amazon’s Dot can also be used to order products from Amazon stores.
Realizing the importance, a lot of companies have sprinted to join smart speaker race. There already are quite a few smart speakers out in the market right now, including Google Home and Amazon Echo. At its Developer’s Conference, Apple also teased a smart home speaker, HomePad, for its users. Alibaba, the ecommerce giant based out of China, has recently geared towards making its own version of smart speaker that will let the consumers order products from its website.
