Samsung has introduced the Exynos 9820 SoC which will most likely make its debut on the next year’s Galaxy S10, with ground-breaking specifications and a 10% improved single-core performance, 15% improved multi-core performance as well as up to 40% better power efficiency.
Exynos 9820 is an Octa-Core processor with 2 Custom made CPUs, 2 Cortex-A75 CPUs, and 4 4 Cortex-A55 CPUs. The new SoC is now built on 8nm Low Power Plus lithography and ARM Mali G76 MP12 GPU which should deliver 40% better performance compared to its predecessor.
The biggest improvement is the 8K video processing at 30 fps plus 2Gbps download speed capability using the new LTE-A Cat.20 8CA modem. For reference, the old modem could attain a maximum of 1.2Gbps download speed. The new LTE chipset is another step towards a 5G connected world.
This new SoC also has a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is a separate chip that will allow AI tasks and machine learning algorithms to work 7 times faster. Mass production of this chip will begin by the end of this year and it should be available just in time for S10’s launch.
