Samsung was forced to halt its lousy update.
Samsung released Android 8.0 Oreo stable update for its last year’s S-series flagships Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ almost a week ago in selected European markets. That update was followed by several beta tests of Android Oreo 8.0 on Galaxy S8 variants and was already too late, but it’s not surprising as we are talking about Samsung.
Well, what has happened afterward is even more intriguing, some Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices with Android 8.0 update started facing unwanted side effect i.e. unexpected reboots, as soon as their users updated them. For now, the company has confirmed the issue in some devices and is investigating the problem.
Samsung stopped distributing the update as cited by Phone Arena; the G950/G955-FXXU1CRAP files, which contain Android 8.0, can no longer be downloaded from Sammy’s servers. According to a company’s official statement,
“Following a limited number of cases where Galaxy S8 and S8+ devices have rebooted unexpectedly with the Android 8.0 Oreo, we have temporarily stopped the rollout of the update.”
At this point, it is unclear when Samsung will resume Oreo update to S8 variants, though Samsung was already late to release it in the first place, keeping its record as the slowest update introducer. However, the company states,
“We are investigating the issue internally to ensure that the impact to the affected devices is minimized and the rollout of the update can resume as quickly as possible.”
Interestingly, Samsung released stable Android Oreo update to Galaxy S8 variants after months of beta testing and the discovery of an issue after wasting this amount of time is also a worrying factor. That’s certainly not the kind of feature you want from a fresh software update, especially one you’ve waited months to receive on your expensive smartphone.
