Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note 5 to get Android Oreo update

The largest smartphone manufacturer and the slowest software update introducer, Samsung is apparently introducing Android Oreo update to its almost three years old devices. It is quite rare that Android phones especially Samsung’s, receive more than two years of major software updates. But now, the Phone Arena reports that a US carrier has confirmed that
Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note 5 will get Android Oreo update.

According to the support pages for the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5 listed on T-Mobile, a popular carrier in the US, it has been noted that Oreo updates for the phones are in development. Each page has the message, “T-Mobile and the device manufacturer have agreed to support a new software update.” However, the info has not been confirmed by Samsung.

If Oreo does indeed make its way to Samsung’s 2015 flagships, it will be very impressive. As mentioned above, almost every phone manufacturer calls it quits after two years of support, excluding Xiaomi which has recently announced MIUI 9 for even 5 years old devices, which pales in comparison to the 3-5 year update lifespan of iPhones.

It does not seem to be happening that Samsung will allow just one carrier to update these smartphones to Android Oreo and not provide the update to every other unit worldwide, but for now, we have no evidence to deny that.

Meanwhile, the company has recently released Android Oreo updates for Galaxy S8 and S8+ initially for Germany and some beta testers. Still, we don’t know which carriers will roll out the update for 2015 models, and how long away the update is.
