After a series of leaks regarding the most anticipated Samsung release ever – finally, we have the confirmation of one good news. With less than a month to go before the global launch of Samsung Galaxy S10, rumors are all over the place regarding the Cameras, the “Bright Night” camera feature, the hole-punch display, the display cutouts and much more. But the only real confirmation we have had so far is that at least one of the flagships of S10 will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
On analyzing the Samsung Pay application source code properly, the XDA-Developers found an in-display fingerprint scanner. According to the developer’s team, the latest Samsung Pay application includes source code for detecting what type of fingerprint scanner the phone has. The code suggests that when you choose to pay through the Samsung Pay application, then the application has to lift the payment dialog box a bit higher, asking what type of security you’ll use, PIN or scanner; this makes room for the in-display sensor icon at the bottom of the screen, when the latter option is chosen.
The source code also mentions the Galaxy S10 codename suggesting that the long-rumored in-display scanner is finally going to be introduced for the Galaxy S10. However, Galaxy S10 shares the same codename among all its rumored variants so it is not clear if all units will have the in-display fingerprint scanner or just the one or two. Since Galaxy S10 lite is likely to have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner we can assume that only the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ will feature the in-display scanner.
With Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the OnePlus 6T and the Vivo NEX Ultimate already featuring the new technology, the in-display fingerprint sensors seem to be the trend forward. While Samsung is expected to use Qualcomm’s ultrasonic technology in its Galaxy S10 flagships, there are rumors that the in-display sensor won’t be that effective with the screen protectors.
Nonetheless, the journey of expectations that started nearly 2 years back, is finally going to come to an end. First, the in-display fingerprint sensor was allegedly going to feature on the Galaxy S8, then on the Galaxy Note 8, then on the Galaxy S9, and most recently, on the Galaxy Note 9. But much to the Galaxy users’ disappointment none of these devices ditched the fingerprint scanner on the rear for an in-screen sensor.
