This year, Samsung is porting the Infinity Display technology from the high-end Galaxy S and Note models to the more mid-range A and J series smartphones, as we have previously seen in Galaxy A8 and A8+ (2018). According to FCC, the latest model to get the 18.5:9 aspect ratio Infinity Display screen seems to be a member of the Galaxy J family, most likely to be named J6.
The high-end Galaxy S smartphone series from Samsung is usually showcasing all of the latest technologies every time a new iteration is released, but, in the last few years, the Korean company has been known to throw in some of the high-end features with the mid-rangy A and J series, as well. Already ported to the A series earlier this year, the Infinity Display technology is now making its way to the J series, as pointed out by a recent FCC reveal.
The fact that the upcoming J6 models are getting the Infinity Displays was not directly revealed by clear specs, but rather through a few phone info screen caps that reveal the 18.5:9 aspect ratio of the display. With the jump to an Infinity Display, the J6 is probably getting its fingerprint scanner relocated to the rear side, and the hardware button on the front will probably be missing as well.
Additionally, the FCC documents reveal that the display on the J6 will have a 5.6-inch diagonal and an overall size of 5.75 x 2.63 inches. Other features like Android 8.0, dual SIM slots, an audio jack, plus the powerful Exynos 7870 SoC coupled with 2 GB of RAM have been revealed on GeekBench.
An official announcement from Samsung is expected within the next few weeks and the devices are also likely to get a certain increase in price as the quality of components in the device have increased.
