Samsung makes Galaxy A8 & A8+ (2018) official with infinity display and dual front camera

Samsung’s most talked about Galaxy A Series of 2018 has finally gone official. The smartphones that have been previously rumored to be the replacement for Galaxy A5 and A7 (2017) are finally being made official as the Galaxy A8 (2018) and Galaxy A8+ (2018). The newly made official smartphones feature a large infinity display and dual front camera with Live Focus. However, the devices can’t be called a mid-rangers anymore as they have moved to a higher price segment.

Samsung’s Galaxy A8 was earlier rumored to be the first midrange smartphone by the company to have a Galaxy S8 like infinity display. But as the infinity display arrives, the price has gone volatile. The newly launched A8 variants have quite similar features as a flagship. The Galaxy A8 features a 5.6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display while the A8+ has a 6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display.

Both Galaxy A8 variants have some features in common like the Infinity display, an immersive 18:5:9 aspect ratio, and 1080×1920 pixels resolution. These are the first devices in A series to support Gear VR headset.

As far as the cameras are concerned, both A8 variants feature a 16-megapixel camera on the back with f/1.7 aperture. Meanwhile, all the fascination is about the front cameras which are paired as 16MP and 8MP with f/1.9 aperture. The dual front camera is going to be one of the biggest selling points of these devices.

The Galaxy A8 comes with a 4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. The Galaxy A8+ offers 4/6GB RAM and 32/64GB storage options and comes with a massive 3,500mAh battery. It is possible that the 6GB RAM variant will be exclusive to China and a few other Asian markets. There’s a microSD card slot for external memory expansion. Both devices offer IP68 dust and water resistance, just like last year’s A series phones. Both devices run Android 7.1.1 and will be updated to Oreo soon. Both devices support USB Type-C port and fast charging.

The Galaxy A8 and A8+ are most likely to cost around $590 and $690, respectively, which is quite higher as expected from A-series. The phones will be made available in four colors i.e. black, orchid grey, gold, and blue. The devices will go on sale from January 2018.
