Samsung finally schedules Nougat update for many smartphones including S6, Note 5, the A and J series

Samsung has finally announced the Android 7.0 Nougat update dates for many of its top of the line Samsung Galaxy smartphones. The list of smartphones which have got their releases scheduled includes the last year’s Samsung flagships, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Note 5 among many others.

Samsung has already rolled out the Nougat release to its present flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge with different carriers also rolling out the update to their respective models. Up next, Samsung is looking to extend the release to its other smartphones as indicated by a timeline roadmap as released by Samsung Turkey.

Samsung is going to release the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 by the end of this week, while the Galaxy S6 Edge is expected to get it by the end of the fourth week of this month, the VP Samsung Electronics Turkey Tansu Yegen had announced through his Twitter handle. Now, Galaxy Club has reported that the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge will get the update either by this month’s end or by the very start of next month. The release will make its way to the Note 5 on March 6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ on March 13.

The report further establishes that the Samsung Galaxy A (2016) would be the next to get the update. The Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) will get the update on April 24, the Galaxy A5 (2016), Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A8 on May 22.

The previous models of Galaxy A series, the Samsung Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7 will be getting the update on July 31 along with Galaxy J7 (2016) while Galaxy J5 (2016) will get the update on September 18. Likewise, the standard Galaxy J7 will get the update on August 28, Galaxy J5 on October 1, and Galaxy J7 Prime on November 15.

As far as the rollout to Samsung Tab series is concerned, Samsung will be releasing the update to the Galaxy Tab S2 Refresh on May 15 and the Galaxy Tab S2 on May 23. The update will come to the Galaxy Tab A series within the second and third weeks of July this year.

At this time when we have already been hearing about the next version of Android being called as Android O, and seeing that the schedules of these releases are extending to as late as November this year – it is difficult to say if Samsung will release the update to other smartphones. The Google Nexus (now Pixel) are being preferred for the stock Android experience and if getting the upcoming Android versions beforehand is one’s priority.
