Samsung announces Android Pie release schedule for its Galaxy devices

Samsung is notorious for releasing slow Android updates for its flagship Galaxy devices, however, in recent times, Samsung has responded strongly by being more proactive in its update programs. The recent update surprised some Samsung fans as the South Korean giant shared the Android 9 Pie update roadmap which indicates that Samsung might be kicking things off early.

As of now, reports regarding the Android -Pie updates are coming from users from European countries including UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy, as well as the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new pie-update will bring some exciting features including the adaptive battery mode, and the new pie-gestures, furthermore the update will also include Samsung’s new One UI design. Samsung further posted a refreshed pi-update road-map for other galaxy devices. The full list is below:

  • Galaxy S9 and S9+ (January 2019)
  • Galaxy Note9 (February 2019)
  • Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8 (March 2019)
  • Galaxy A8 2018, A8+ 2018, A7 2018, A9 2018, Tab S4 10.5 (April 2019)
  • Galaxy J4, J4+, J6, J6+, A8 Star (May 2019)
  • Galaxy J7 2017 (July 2019)
  • Galaxy J7 Duo (August 2019)
  • Galaxy Xcover4, J3 2017, Tab S3 9.7 (September 2019)
  • Galaxy Tab A 2017, Tab Active2, Tab A 10.5 (October 2019)

Despite the promising news of the update, it still highlights the fact that Samsung still faces a lot of problems in releasing quick Android updates, as the list shows that some of the Samsung devices will take more than six months to get the pie-update. A major factor attribute to this slow program is the heavy skin that Samsung installs on the Android OS, many users have complained that they prefer a lighter Samsung skin which has less bloatware.

It should be noted that OnePlus and Huawei, Samsung’s main competitors in Asia have already released Android-pie update for their flagship devices. In fact One Plus has released the Android-Pie update for its two-year-old flagship, OnePlus 5 and 5T as well while Samsung has yet to release a stable Android-Pie update for the Galaxy S9 owners.
