[Rooting] How to root your Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime

If you are an Android user, then you might rejoice (provided you are a hardcore smartphone user as well) for you have the ability to customize your Android experience by a great deal. Users from all-around the globe trim their smartphone experience as per their liking by installing customs ROMs and skins etc., much greater freedom may, however, only be achieved through rooting.

Following that, we have covered how can you actually root your Samsung Galaxy J5, Galaxy J7 and J1. Today, I would be telling you about how can you root your Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime.

There are many ways through which you can root your smartphones. In some cases, you need a PC and in some cases you don’t. Rooting that doesn’t need a PC is also called one-click rooting. As the root thus achieved is temporary, we will stick to rooting out smartphone using PC.

Process:

1. Back-Up

As per a precautionary measure, we would recommend you to do a back-up of the data stored on your smartphone. But fewer have happened the cases, when people actually damaged their smartphone.

Backup through one of the following means

• Transfer all the data from you mobile to your SD card and remove it.
• Use your PC to back-up the data.
• Samsung also has the functionality of using Samsung Kies to back up the data, doing it manually however can give better control over the content to be backed up.

2. Download USB driverS for PC

Download the drivers on your PC and install them in order to be able to successfully connecting your smartphone with your PC (which we would be doing in later stages). You can do so by

• Download Samsung USB Drivers
• Download Samsung KIES (KIES bundles drivers as well)

3. Enable USB debugging mode on your Grand Prime

In order to enable the USB debugging mode follow these steps.

• Go to Settings
• Scroll down and find ‘Developer Options’. Tap there
• Enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking option

If you can’t see the Developer Options, follow these steps to make it visible by following these steps.

• Go to Settings
• Scroll down till you see “About Device”. Tap there
• Tap on Build Number for 5-7 times to make the Developer Options visible
• Now follow the aforementioned steps to enable USB debugging and OEM Unlocking

4. Download the root package for your smartphone

You will be required to download the root package for your respective Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime. The root packages are different for different variants. In Pakistan, the model mostly is SM-G530H. And we are doing the rooting for the same. You can follow these quick and easy steps to check your model.

• Go to Settings on your smartphone.
• Scroll down till you see “About Device” or “About Phone” and tap there.
• Note down the model number.

Once you are sure of the model number, you can download the root package.

• Download the firmware file from here.
• Save it on your PC without extracting.

After downloading the firmware, you would need to download Odin

• Download the Odin3
• Save it on your PC and extract it.

Before you finally move on to the next step, make sure that your device has sufficient battery backup in it. Consider deactivating any anti-virus program in your computer so that it does not disturb the flashing process.

5. Open your smartphone in Fastboot mode

You can boot your smartphone into the Fastboot mode through these steps.

• Make sure that your smartphone is not connected to any PC.
• Switch off your smartphone.
• Press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power Button simultaneously.
• Read the warning and, agreeing, confirm by pressing the Volume Up key.

Once your device boots into the download mode, connect it to your computer using the original USB data cable.

6. Process on your PC

After connecting your device, open the folder where you extracted Odin files.

• Find the Odin3.exe and open it. If you have proper USB drivers of your device in your PC, you will be able to see ‘Added’ in Odin dialogue box.
• Click on ‘PDA’ button and select the .tar file you downloaded earlier.
• Click on the ‘Start’ button.

The flashing will usually take a minute. After the process, you will see a green pass icon, and your device will reboot automatically. If you would like to confirm, if your device has correctly been rooted or not, check if SuperSU application is present in your application drawer. You will find it, if you have correctly performed all the steps.
