Qualcomm is an established beast of the chip industry. Its chipsets are used in the current generation flagships of Apple and Samsung, which shows how much it’s trusted.
The chipmaker unveiled its latest processor, Snapdragon 845, earlier this month. As of now, Roland Quandt, reveals in an interesting blog post that a new chip has been unveiled, called the Snapdragon 670, will support WQHD displays and dual cameras. It is to be noted, however, that the SD670 will be used in mid-range smartphones, despite it being compatible with features as that of current-gen flagships.
Its predecessor, the Snapdragon 660, powered the Oppo R11 series along with some models of the Vivo product lineup in the Asian market. In the West, however, the 660 has not been such a hit.
Roland has said that the new chip will support a maximum resolution of 2560×1440 pixels along with 6 GB DDRX4 RAM and 64 GB Emmc 5.1 storage. Furthermore, the chip will also support a back camera of 22.6 MP paired with a front camera of 13 MP.
The SD670 is rumored to be built around the 10nm Low Power Plus technology by Samsung. Other rumors state that the chipset will have 2 high-power 3rd Gen Kyro 360 cores along with 6 low-power Kyro 360 cores, which effectively hints towards the chip favoring power efficiency over performance.
To give you a fair background, the current flagship processor of the company, the Snapdragon 835 uses 2nd gen Kyro 360 cores. The 670 will be an important step forward towards mid-range smartphones featuring some up to date specifications and is expected to be in the mass-production stage within the first quarter of 2018.
