Punjab To Distribute Free Solar Panels To 100000 Households

LAHORE: The Punjab government has completed the registration process for its ambitious free solar panel project, which promises long-term savings on electricity bills for 100,000 households throughout the province. With a budget of Rs. 10 billion, this is one of the major projects led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in the province’s drive towards renewable energy.

The plan’s objective is to reduce residential electricity use by 200 units per month on average. A ballot will be used to pick the home, which is expected to take place in June 2025. A solar panel system consisting of 1,100-watt panels and 550-watt panels will be installed at the chosen house.

Maryam Nawaz stated that this initiative will greatly lower electricity bills for the public. She emphasized that it marks a significant step toward her vision of transforming Punjab into a province fully reliant on renewable energy.

In addition to the solar panel plan, the chief minister also announced the eventual conversion of agricultural field tube wells to solar energy. Other projects include getting 100,000 electric bikes for students and adding e-buses to Punjab’s public transport system to make it more modern.

She said, “These steps will not only reduce energy costs but also revolutionize traditional transport in Punjab.” She emphasized that the province is committed to adopting environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions.

If the solar panel project is successful, it will be a major step towards the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources in Punjab, which would help alleviate financial strain on families and address further issues related to electricity.
