While the province of Punjab has been blessed with an abundance of natural resources, it has also developed into a technological hotspot in Pakistan, with the boom in technical education, startup culture and tech-related investments. This has naturally piqued the interest of investors worldwide, as is the case with Riadh Boukhris, CEO of French I-tech company Xona Blue.
Boukhris visited the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) office on Tuesday, with the intention of generally assessing the landscape for investment potential and discussing collaboration opportunities.
Like other foreign investors, Boukhris is aware that there are immense opportunities available in the sectors of agriculture and IT in Punjab, especially considering the use of skilled human resource to meet the needs of the industry and the induction of 400 technical education institutions and two technical universities in the province.
Ultimately, according to a PBIT official, Boukhris was left sufficiently impressed to state that Punjab is indeed an attractive place for investment and that his company is looking forward to forming a partnership in agriculture and IT sectors.
In a separate meeting, CEO of Dawn Bread Anwar Hussain Khan discussed various matters of mutual interest and benefit with the Punjab Minister for Trade and Industry Mian Aslam Iqbal, expounding upon the possibility and importance of investment in the province. The establishment of a new unit in the Muridke Tehsil in Punjab was discussed, and Khan also stated his desire to set up another industrial unit in the M-III industrial estate in Faisalabad, for which land has been acquired.
PBIT went on to inform the visitors that two more technical universities were to be set up in Punjab and that they could provide technical assistance in this regard in order to ensure swift and efficient completion of the project.
