The Punjab government has unveiled an innovative e-taxi program to combat air pollution and support employment. Electric vehicles will be provided to online taxi drivers at reasonable prices under this initiative, which will promote environmentally responsible transportation and increase the earnings of drivers.
Bilal Akbar Khan, the Provincial Transport Minister, disclosed the specifics of the initiative, which will involve the conversion of a substantial number of online taxis to electric vehicles (EVs). Drivers will have the option to acquire these electric vehicles through either down payments or convenient installment plans, which will facilitate their participation.
The transition to electric taxis, as emphasized by Minister Khan, will not only reduce detrimental emissions but also be economically beneficial for drivers. Drivers could potentially save up to 40% on petroleum expenses by transitioning to electric vehicles, as indicated by research.
To address the growing demand for online transportation services in Punjab and the escalating pollution in urban areas, particularly in Lahore, this program was implemented.
The transition to electric taxis will offer a variety of advantages, including improved economic prospects for the drivers, reduced gasoline costs, and a healthier environment. Additionally, it is anticipated that the initiative will generate a plethora of employment prospects for individuals who are currently unemployed.
