LAHORE: The government of Punjab has taken new steps to reduce air pollution, with a particular emphasis on stricter vehicle rules. A significant decision was made to not give M-tags to vehicles without a fitness certificate.
With this new rule, the government is continuing to fight air pollution. When applying for an M-tag, drivers will now also need to present their license, registration book, and fitness certificate.
In addition, from October to January, no car older than 30 years will be allowed entry to Lahore. Additionally, during this period, these older vehicles will not be allowed to travel on highways.
Bilal Akbar Khan, the provincial minister of transport, has stated that these actions are needed because of the extreme pollution in the area. At first, the rules will only apply to government cars.
To implement the new rules effectively, the Services and General Administration Department will be responsible for collecting and sharing detailed information about all official public vehicles.
This initiative aims to ensure that the new regulations apply to a wide range of vehicles, including both commercial and private cars. The government’s goal is to create a comprehensive framework that addresses the needs of various vehicle categories, ensuring uniform compliance with the newly established rules across different sectors.
