Punjab Government Plans E-Taxi Service Following Chinese Model

LAHORE: The Punjab government has announced intentions to introduce an electric taxi service across the state, modeled after China’s successful EV taxi services. In accordance with the instructions given by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the effort would be supervised by Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan.

Collaboration with Electric Vehicle Manufacturers

The Punjab Transport Department has started engaging several electric vehicle manufacturers about the scheme as early as possible. National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) and the Deewan Group have both shown interest in being a part of the project.

Lahore and the divisional headquarters would be the primary targets of the first operations of the implementation before other important cities in Punjab are included. The service will be available at all times, giving locals a reliable means of transportation.

Flexible Payment Plans for Participants

Participants in the program will be able to purchase electric vehicles with a variety of payment plans and down payments to suit their needs. The goal of this strategy is to lower the barriers to entry for prospective taxi drivers in terms of vehicle ownership.

Rising air pollution due to automobile emissions was a major motivating factor in the establishment of this program, which aimed to address environmental issues. In addition to lowering pollution levels in metropolitan areas, the transportation department hopes that the program will generate new job openings within the industry.

The government has not yet said when the program will start or how much each car will cost.
