Punjab Government Declares 20-Day Winter Vacation for Schools

The Punjab government has officially declared the winter vacation schedule for schools, which will begin on December 20th, 2024, and conclude on January 10th , 2025. The 20-day holiday applies to both public and private schools across the province.

Khalid Nazir Wattoo, the Secretary of the Punjab Schools Department, underscored the significance of preserving a balanced academic calendar to guarantee that both students and personnel have sufficient time to rest and recharge. “Students will enjoy a 20-day winter holiday starting from December 20 until January 10, 2025,” Wattoo stated.

In a related development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a directive requiring all institutions to arrange transport for pupils after the winter vacation. The court also cautioned that any institution that fails to adhere to this order may be required to close.

Justice Shahid Karim, in a three-page written ruling, instructed the Punjab government to ensure that schools provide transportation for students once classes resume. The School Department has been assigned the responsibility of issuing final notices to schools, emphasizing that noncompliance will result in severe repercussions.

The Punjab government encouraged the students to participate in productive activities. It is a chance for families to spend quality time together, while simultaneously promoting healthy habits and reducing screen time. Parents are advised to foster activities that support learning, such as reading and skill development.

Schools are set to reopen on January 11th, 2025, with teachers focusing on revisiting the curriculum, preparing students for upcoming exams, and ensuring they stay on track with assignments. This winter vacation provides a critical opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation in preparation for the academic challenges of the upcoming year.
