Punjab Government Bans Use of Mobile Phones in Schools

In Punjab, schools have banned the use of cell phones from Tuesday onwards. The ban applies to both public and private schools, with local education officers instructed to enforce it.

In addition, the government of Punjab mandates that all educators wear coats, appropriate footwear, and watches to the classroom at all times. This decision is a result of concerns raised by the Punjab School Education Department regarding teachers’ excessive phone use.

A senior official in Punjab has stated that the excessive use of mobile phones in schools has resulted in numerous issues, such as pupils and teachers recording and sharing films on social media. The government gave 20 guidelines to all district education officials to help with this and other problems. The Ministry of Education has issued these regulations in an effort to boost student well-being and compliance with school rules.

Punjab Schools Enforce New Rules on Phones, Uniforms, and Discipline

Teachers will have to leave their cell phones at the office of the administration. Phone confiscation and disciplinary action may be necessary in the event of a violation of this ban. All staff and students are required to clearly show their identification cards and school badges.

All students attending schools in Punjab are required to wear navy blue sweaters. Those who do not comply will be excluded from the premises. The schedules of all schools must be made publicly available. Class representatives will be chosen in order to keep the peace. Patriotic messages must also be put up in schools.

For classwork, students will use registers, and instructors will mark attendance on the blackboard. Rana Liaqat Ali, Secretary General of the Punjab Teachers Union, stated that while the phone ban is a positive initiative, it is largely unnecessary as teachers already avoid using phones during school hours.
