The Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, announced the approval of the ‘CM Punjab Laptop Scheme’ and the ‘Khelta Punjab program in a significant meeting in Lahore. The initiatives aim to improve public well-being and simultaneously advocate for the protection of our environment.
The CM Punjab Laptop Scheme has been running since 2011 and is offering laptops to those students who secure 60% marks in the annual system or 70% in the semester system. Annually, the scheme benefits 100,000 talented students studying in public sector colleges and universities in Punjab and Matriculation Examination toppers. It is designed as a program for students that will help individuals overcome educational difficulties and attain success in further education and work.
The Khelta Punjab Games 2024 is going to be a historic sports event to identify and promote talent across the Punjab region. This is a competition for athletes below the age of 22 years to promote talent search at the district, divisional, and provincial levels. As the games have the thrilling prize money of PKR 100 million, the games teach sportsmanship and togetherness to the participants.
Also, the Cabinet passed an amendment to the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 raising the penalties for vehicles emitting smoke, and introduced a drive against plastic pollution through the formation of District Plastic Management Committees.
All these outcomes indicate the determination of the government through such projects to enhance education, sports, and environmental conservation in Punjab.
