Punjab Authorities announce new school timings for winters in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab provincial authorities have announced new timings for schools during the winter season of 2024 for the comfort and protection of the students.

According to a notification from the School Education Department (SED), classes will now begin from 8:45 AM to 2:45 PM from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, school hours will be adjusted to run from 8:45 AM to 12:45 PM.

For double-shift schools, the first shift will end daily at 12:45 PM and early dismissal at 12 PM on Fridays. The second shift will be from 1 PM to 5 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM on Fridays.

The notification further outlined that teachers are expected to arrive by 8:30 AM and will be closing their day at 3 PM.

The shift in school hours during the winter is a common practice in Punjab, with the primary goal of protecting student comfort and safety.

Additionally, winter fog and diminished daylight contribute to this decision, making commutes safer in Lahore and other cities of Punjab. This adjustment strikes a balance between educational continuity and mandatory precautions during the winter season.
