PTA to Improve Pakistan’s Internet Speed with 45,000 km 2Africa Undersea Cable

Pakistan is set to benefit from a significant upgrade to its internet connectivity as a new undersea cable is being installed. This upgrade will address the prolonged issues of slow internet speeds that have plagued users for the past seven months.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is integrating the country’s internet infrastructure with the 2Africa Cable, a groundbreaking 45,000-kilometer subsea cable network. Recognized as the largest cable project globally, this initiative is expected to revolutionize connectivity across Pakistan.

The PTA has announced that the 2Africa Cable, created by a French firm as part of a worldwide project led by Meta, has successfully established physical connectivity in Pakistan. A monumental initiative is set to connect 46 landing stations spanning Europe, Africa, and Asia, establishing a link between Pakistan and one of the most expansive internet infrastructure networks globally.

Once operational, the cable is anticipated to provide an additional 24 terabytes of bandwidth, responding to ongoing concerns regarding sluggish internet speeds and enhancing connectivity for popular platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

The project, set to be fully operational by 2025, is part of a worldwide effort to revolutionize internet infrastructure. For Pakistani users, this signifies the availability of one of the quickest internet services worldwide, effectively addressing current connectivity challenges.

China Mobile International and Meta are the consortium members managing the Karachi segment of the cable. The two organizations have joined forces with Transworld Associates to oversee the management and operation of the cable’s landing station in Pakistan.
