ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated that all SIM cards that have been registered under the CNICs of deceased persons would be blocked by October 15th, 2024.

PTA obtained the SIM card data in August 2024 and notified consumers via SMS whose SIMs are at risk of being blocked based on this criteria.

In a recent announcement, the country’s national telecom operator urged consumers to swiftly transfer the SIM cards of dead family members to their own identities.

After the deadline, users will be unable to reactivate their SIM cards since the SIM cards issued to the deceased individual’s  ID Cards will be deactivated permanently.

How to activate the SIM cards linked to CNICs of deceased individuals?

The PTA has urged consumers to visit their local franchise for the transfer procedure if they want to activate their SIM card for future usage.

Users are advised to present the deceased’s original death certificate, as well as an official document verifying their relation for the transfer procedure.

The franchise staff will review the given documentation and aid with changing the SIM to the relative’s name, all while complying with the PTA’s newest requirements. The efforts aim to protect customers and boost trust in communication networks.
