PTA releases QoS Survey Report 2024: Zong and Jazz Lead, Ufone and Telenor Struggle

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released its Quality of Service (QoS) Survey report for the second quarter of 2024, highlighting the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) in 23 cities across Pakistan. While Zong and Jazz emerged as the top performers in several categories, Ufone and Telenor lagged behind in key performance metrics.
The survey, conducted over 83 days, involved extensive testing across 4,000 kilometers per CMO. In accordance with the Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations 2021, over 0.38 million mobile broadband tests and 57,500 call and SMS assessments were carried out.

Performance Metrics:

The survey assessed operators on crucial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including:
Download Throughput (Mbps): Data download speeds.
Upload Throughput (Mbps): Data upload speeds.
Call Connection Time: Time taken for calls to connect.
SMS Send Time: Speed of sending text messages.
Network Latency: Delay in data transmission.

Key Findings of QoS Survey 2024 (Q2):

QOS Survey revealed some interesting facts and figures regarding network operator landscape in Pakistan, details of reports are as below:
Download Speeds: Zong led with the highest download throughput, followed closely by Jazz, while Ufone and Telenor posted slower results.
Call Connection & SMS Performance: Ufone ranked well for SMS send time, but call connection times across Telenor and Ufone were slower compared to Zong and Jazz.
Network Latency: Zong excelled with the lowest latency (26.1 ms), indicating quicker data transmission, with Jazz following at 33.7 ms. Ufone (41.9 ms) and Telenor (38.7 ms) showed slower responsiveness.

Ranking table issued by PTA based on KPIs

Ranking of Mobile Network Operators in Pakistan:

Based on the survey findings, Zong and Jazz were ranked as top performers, especially in network speed and latency. Ufone and Telenor, on the other hand, faced challenges in maintaining competitive speeds and connection reliability, especially in high-demand areas.

The PTA’s latest QoS report provides a comprehensive view of the mobile network landscape in Pakistan. While Zong and Jazz continue to deliver strong performance, Ufone and Telenor need to address areas for improvement, particularly in network speed and latency, to remain competitive in an increasingly data-driven market.
