Pta Chairman Confirms No Orders For Mobile Service Shutdown

ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, confirmed that no official orders have been issued to shut down mobile phone services in the country.

The PTA chairman clarified that despite reports that the government may activate a national firewall in response to potential disruptions related to impending demonstrations in Islamabad, no formal directive has been issued to suspend mobile or internet services.

Additionally, he emphasized that the PTA’s official website provides clear guidelines for both individual and business users regarding the registration procedure for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs).

The PTA chairman has assured the public that no closure has been ordered at this time, despite media reports suggesting that services in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and specific districts of Punjab may be suspended beginning on November 23rd , 2024.
