LAHORE: Students from different cities of Punjab have also come out on the roads to protest against the alleged rape of a girl at Punjab College by a security guard.
Protests started in different cities of Punjab with a significant protest held on the main campus and its vicinity around Hafeez Centre, where students clashed with security forces.
Violent confrontations broke out on Canal Road and Ferozpur Road, in which at least five students and four policemen were injured. In Okara, students of the same college assembled on GT Road while others protested in front of the Punjab Assembly in Lahore demanding justice and arrest of the accused.
The incident which was dismissed by the victim’s family, has sparked outrage among students, who have chanted and sought to stage a sit-in along key highways.
In response to the escalating situation, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has constituted a committee headed by the chief secretary to probe the matter and submit its report within two days.
Student organizations have intensified their pressure as police have beefed up security in and around the Punjab College. Protests on GT Road remain on as students demand the release of arrested students and justice for the alleged offense.
The protests underscore ongoing concern regarding safety and justice within educational institutions, with students demanding swift action against perpetrators of violence.
