Police arrests three suspects in Careem captain’s murder case

On Monday night, a Careem driver was shot dead during a car snatching incident in Naseerabad, Rawalpindi. Recently, police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Careem’s driver Sajawal Ameer, who was 22-year-old.

According to Potohar Division’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Ali, these suspects have been arrested from different areas of Rawalpindi. SP also told that one person from these arrested people is an Afghan citizen and he also had a Pakistani national identity card.

Police have also disclosed that the person who booked the ride is also among those arrested. That rider had been acting in connivance with the robbers, as suspected by Naseerabad Station House Officer (SHO) Chaudhry Akhtar.

Police have also recovered cash and both mobile phones, that belonged to the victim, from the possession of the accused persons. Police had lodged an FIR with the car’s owner and Ameer’s roommate Amir Mushtaq as the complainant. The police will produce the suspects before a local court today and will appeal for a physical remand.

According to a Careem’s statement,

“The law enforcement agencies must ensure that our cities are made safer and our citizens do not have to fear for their lives when they leave their houses to earn an honest living.”

The previous reports have affirmed that when Ameer resisted the robbers, he was shot five times and left fatally injured while the murderers escaped with the captain’s mobile phone, cash and car.

This was the second Careem driver of the same ride-hailing company who was murdered in a span of only 15 days, in twin cities of Pakistan, which are deemed as secure and safe place as compared to other cities. Previously, Careem’s captain named Junaid Mustafa was murdered in Islamabad.
