Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’ just recently announced the approval of a 10,000 megawatts solar energy project which will be aimed at reducing import bills that come from importing costly diesel and furnace oil.
The decision was made in a government meeting that was set up with the intention of providing major relief to the masses. With the nation suffering from massive inflation and flooding, this was an important meeting for the government.
According to sources, the Prime Minister was super hesitant on generating electricity through solar. Now, this is a good decision, since increasing global warming has already wreaked enough havoc on the country and it’s about time we switch towards a renewable energy source.
According to the details revealed in the meeting, the first phase of the project would be focused on providing solar energy to government buildings, tube wells and domestic electricity users.
While addressing the meeting, PM Shahbaz Sharif ordered all relevant authorities to step up and take immediate measures to start providing solar relief before the next summer season starts, while also requesting the commencement of the project.
In a tweet last week, the PM was found promoting solar energy. “Imported fuel whose prices have gone up in recent months. Our National Solar Energy Initiative is aimed at substituting costly energy with cheap solar power, which will provide massive relief to people and save precious foreign exchange,” he said.
Soon after the meeting, the PM called on for a conference meeting with all the stakeholders involved, this meeting will be organized next week before the bidding process starts.
What’s important to be noted is that this project might involve foreign investors since the Prime Minister while talking to a delegation from Pakistan America Business Forum said that they are focused on making economic conditions favorable for foreign investors.
