Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL update adds color modes and screen burn-in protection

Google has been investigating reports of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices screen burn-in and clicking sound, now it has somehow resolved these issues with this latest update carrying November security patch.

Google has made multiple changes to improve the display of Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The update adds different color modes to make the colors of devices more saturated to view, according to Google Pixel User Community Page.

Color profiles have been changed as well. Now rather than simply toggling on “vivid colors” in the display settings, you have three options: “boosted,” “natural” or “saturated.” The “boosted” option is cooler than the old “vivid colors” option, which is hardly noticeable, while “natural” is self-explanatory and “saturated” makes the biggest difference to view.

The latest update is also making changes to other display aspects, limiting the Pixel 2 XL’s screen burn-in issue. These changes include a small reduction in the maximum screen brightness, as well as a navigation bar that now fades out after periods of inactivity.

The new changes were previously included in the Android 8.1 Developer Preview, but it’s great to see Google already implementing them in stable builds. Hopefully, these changes will reduce the strain on the screen and keep it from decline faster than usual.

The update also includes a supposed fix for the Pixel 2’s “clicking” issue which was already announced by Google.

Google has yet to release the factory or OTA image for the Pixel 2 XL, but several users this afternoon have received the 59.3 MB update. Both forms of Android 8.0 updates are already available for the smaller Pixel 2.

The update will roll out in stages. It won’t be available to everyone right away but should be soon.
